Katyayani Devi

Katyayani Hills lies five miles south of Kolhapur. Its chief interest is the temple of Goddess Katyayani, prettily placed on a hill. The temple is an old stone building 40' x 20' x 12' high. The Goddess Katyayani held in great honor by the Hindus and mentioned in the Karveer Purans as the great helper of Goddess Mahalaxmi. The Katyayani stream, which rises in this hill, is the main feeder of the Kolhapur water works. The importance of the shrine and the beauty of the temple site make it is a favorite picnic place for the people of Kolhapur.
